Nothing beats a proper tournament ski boat if you are serious about water skiing, wakeboarding or barefooting.
Don’t get me wrong, sports boats and cruisers are great if you want a bit of versatility to go along with your boating; but if you go afloat purely for the purposes of watersports, then you really need a tournament ski boat.
End of story.
This Ski Nautique is a thoroughbred ski boat. She is the ’94 Closed Bow model and has an enthusiastic following. Her fully synthetic stringer system means there is no wood to rot in hull.
Her classic hull shape delivers minimal wake and spray (perfect for slalom skiing when you’re running light) but add a bit of ballast in the back and she will kick up a very decent clean wake for wakeboarding or kneeboarding.
Along with her proven hull pedigree this boat also has a bunch of creature comforts and extras that you wouldn’t normally find in a classic tournament boat from this era. The big one is the Monster Wakeboard Tower that turns this boat into a proper entry level cross-over boat – equally happy pulling skiers or boarders.
The boat also sports not one, but two ice boxes (in the floor and the dash), a wrap-around helm position with tilt adjust steering, Pioneer sound system, bimini top (which also doubles as a spray hood if you get caught out in the rain) and a bunch of easy access storage space. There’s even a perfect-pass system on the boat, albeit it’ll need a bit of fettling to get it back up and running.
The 5.7L Pleasurecraft V8 motor puts out an impressive 285HP and with a simple carburettor and points ignition system it’s basic technology that’s reliable and easy to service – so you can spend your weekends on the water instead of pulling your hair out trying to fix all sorts of electrical glitches and reliability issues.
This boat has been fully serviced and had a bunch of upgrades done at the beginning of the 2018 season. She has been in regular use throughout the year and is starting on the button and running very well. She’s all sorted and ready to go for the 2019 season.
If you want a tournament ski boat that looks the part, is running great, will be reliable, has top pedigree and performance, and won’t break the bank to buy or run, then I think you should take a really close look at this Ski Nautique.
